The Civil War had many factors leading up to it and was more than the cut and dry story we heard as kids. George Forgie laid out five options as to why/how the war started. Those included things like slavery, economic differences between the North and South and differences in Constitutional views and interpretations.
The biggest issue in my opinion was the moral issue involving slavery. People were getting upset over political decisions made by Northern states, including the nomination of President Abraham Lincoln. Made clear in multiple letters in the Archives we looked at showed the displeasure of Southern state like Alabama, Mississippi and Texas. The win over these states lead to the Abolishment of slavery in the states, making this one of the greatest wins for Americans in our history.
