Ethical Dimensions of History

Throughout the years Antebellum slavery has been widley misunderstood and misrepresented in our history. This is why I think its our duty to learn from these events and prevent things of this nature from ever happening again. I don't not think we should be held at fault for any past actions but it is our responsibility to grow and learn from past events, especially those as harsh and impactful as slavery. The way to do so is to determine fact from fiction and recognizing the faults we made and all make a conscious effort to respect and help everyone.

Not only in Southern states, as this is probably the most common mistake I see, but Northern states played a very large role even though sometimes not as direct. I don't think a distant family members struggles should affect someone in todays world just like I don't think someones relatives past mistakes should affect life today, but we do need to identify these mistakes and help protect and inform the future generations.
